See an answer's sources in a list at the end of the answer

You can check where an AI answer came from without leaving the answer, and open any cited web page or file from the same spot.

AI answers in Chief cite their sources, but until now the links sat in a separate activity panel. To see where an answer came from, you had to leave the answer and open that panel.

Sources row on answers

A finished AI answer that cites sources now ends with a one-line row reading "Sources" followed by a count. You can tell at a glance that the answer is sourced and how many sources it draws on.

The row starts collapsed, so a long list stays out of the way while you read. Click it to expand the full list in place, and click again to close it.

Web pages and your files

The list shows web pages and files from your knowledge base together, in the order the answer cites them. Web sources show the site's icon and title, and clicking one opens the page in a new tab. File sources show the file name, and clicking one opens the file in Chief.

If you are viewing a read-only answer, file names appear as plain text you cannot click.

Only what the answer cited

The list includes only the sources the answer cited, not every result a search returned. A source cited several times appears once. A file with no name shows as "Untitled". Citations of past chats do not appear in the list.

The next time you get an answer, expand the Sources row to check its sources without leaving the conversation.
