Invite collaborators into a live session without project access
Anyone signed in can join a live session through a Collaborator link without project access, and you can drop documents into a session; prompts take images and PDFs, actions post to Slack, answers offer to connect integrations, and pickers save defaults. Billing adds custom plans, auto top-up and a Pro to Power User upgrade, alongside paged transcripts, sign-up email choices and fixes to session chat, session names, Expert Voices and Slack cards.
Bringing someone from outside a project into a meeting meant adding them to the whole project, with everything in its library, so they could help take notes.
Today, we're adding session collaboration, along with document drops into live sessions, image and PDF attachments, action results in Slack, integration suggestions, prompt defaults for new tasks, custom plans, auto top-up, the Power User upgrade, paged transcripts and sign-up email choices.
Collaborators in a live session
Send a Collaborator link and anyone signed in to Chief can join that one session, even without project membership. They can open and edit the session's shared documents and canvases, and they gain no access to the project's other files, tasks or roles.
A session document is either Shared with session, so everyone in the session can open it, or Only me. The organization audit log records who joined through a link, and whose access ended when you made the link view-only, turned it off or deleted the session.
Drop a document onto a live session, or pick one with the File button, and Chief adds it to the project library, shows a row in the transcript where you dropped it and uses it as context for that session.
Collaborators who are not project members cannot start chats with Chief. Readers still open the session in the browser only.
A document you drop does not appear in transcript copies, downloads or agent handoffs, and actions set to run on new files do not run for it. A question asked right after a drop may not find the document yet.
Collaborating on a session
- A client joins your call: send a Collaborator link so they can edit the session's documents with you.
- A draft you want to keep to yourself: set the document to Only me before sharing.
- Ending a contractor's access: turn off the collaboration link and their access through it stops.
Files attached to prompts
Attach images and PDFs to a prompt, and Chief reads them with your message. Chief takes PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP images, and adds large PDFs to the Library so it can search them. In Slack, Chief also reads images and PDFs you attach.
Turn on Post each run to Slack in an action's Output and pick a channel. Each run posts a new message, and replying in its thread continues the chat. Each connected channel has its own settings for Channel instructions, Respond automatically and the actions that post there.
Chief tells you when a PDF has more pages than the selected model can read, and asks you to split it.
An older Slack app shows Needs update: Chief keeps answering but cannot post files until you update the app from the current manifest and reinstall it.
Integration connect cards
An answer that needs an integration you have not connected shows a card to connect it, or to ask an organization owner. MCP servers now appear as Custom Integrations by MCP Servers, and the prompt bar, Library and Command Center show what else you can connect.
Each task keeps the voice, skills and public data choice from its last message. Pick one and choose Use for new tasks to make it where new tasks start.
Your previous picks do not carry over, so new tasks start on Chief Expert with no skills and public data on until you save a default.
New billing plan options
The billing settings have Overview, Alerts and Contacts tabs and a list of recent credit activity. An organization on a custom plan sees its price, refill amount, how long credits last and its top-up discount.
Turn on Auto top-up to save a card and have Chief buy credits when the balance drops below an amount you set, up to a monthly cap. You get a notification when auto top-up hits its cap or a charge fails.
On Pro, the current plan card offers Upgrade to Power User. You pay the prorated difference today, get the matching share of Power User credits at once, and your plan renews at the Power User price.
A failed charge turns auto top-up off. Only the person whose card pays for the subscription can upgrade.
Paged session transcripts
Coding agents and the API can read a live session's transcript a page at a time, with a speaker and timecode on each line, so a long meeting arrives in manageable pieces. Connecting AI tools to Chief with MCP covers the connection.
Email choices at sign-up
The sign-up card asks whether you want to Subscribe to our changelog and Get the latest news and updates from Chief. Both boxes start unchecked.
Fixes
- A session collaborator's chat with Chief spun on Working forever. Chief hides chat controls for them, and a refused chat ends with an error you can read.
- The desktop app kept a placeholder name for an ended session while the web app showed the generated one. Both apps now show the same session name.
- Expert Voices sometimes appeared in the wrong project. The Expert Voices page lists each project's own voices.
- A long project list pushed the Copy to Project dialog's button off screen. The list scrolls and the button stays in view.
- The Expert Voice picker had no way to create a voice. It now has a create button.
- Text pasted into a live session showed collapsed. It now shows open in the transcript.
- In dark mode, the divider under a pending prompt was too bright. It uses the theme's divider color.
- Slack question cards stayed answerable after you sent a reply. They close as soon as you send.
Open a live session and copy its Collaborator link to invite someone in. Sharing and joining a Live Session covers the links.
